What were your business challenges before BDR Profit Coaching?
My name is Josh Sumner, and I am the owner of Stellar Services in Gainesville, Florida. We are primarily a commercial air conditioning and refrigeration company, running about 80% commercial and 20% residential.
I began working as a technician for another company and then started this company in 2011. Everybody talks about how you hit different walls in business, and we had most definitely hit a wall, which was aggravating.
When you start a company it is full of passion and ‘all gas and no brakes’, but then you get to a certain point where you aren’t sure about the next move.
All the hard work and risks you took to get to where you are is in jeopardy if you don’t figure out how to get over that wall and keep on growing.
How has BDR helped your business grow?
Probably the biggest thing is having some guidance and somebody telling you what the best practice is elsewhere. A lot of times, these might be things that you thought would never be possible.
When you get somebody from the outside looking in, who is dealing with a lot of different markets across the country, they make you realize that if all these other people are doing it, you can implement it as well.
Another big difference was getting a firmer grasp on the business side of things. I have always been pretty good with that kind of stuff, but never to the level that BDR takes it.
What unexpected benefits did you discover when working with BDR Profit Coaching?
One unexpected benefit that we have really taken advantage of is the onsite visits. We have our onsite visits once a year with our head coach and financial coach. It is hard to really put a price on these.
During the onsite visits, it is not even so much business-related. One aspect that I think people don’t realize is how much it helps your company culture.
When you bring somebody else in from the outside, and you have those team meetings, people really open up, and you can find out how your business is really operating.
Is working with BDR Profit Coaching worth the investment?
BDR Profit Coaching has been worth it to me for a lot of things. I have seen really great growth in the company, but not just numbers-wise. There has also been great growth in the way that we operate and every little detail.
Having that roadmap saying ‘Here is where we are at, here is where we want to be,’ and having a plan for getting there is so valuable. Not knowing is the part that makes everybody uncomfortable.
It makes business a lot easier when you have those instructions and somebody to call if you have a question. The cost is by far outweighed by the benefits; it really is priceless.
